I2P (Invisible Internet Project) uses garlic routing — bundling multiple encrypted messages into a single packet — across a fully decentralised peer-to-peer network. It is a self-contained darknet with its own community and services.

Lokinet
Coming SoonLokinet is a packet-switched onion-routing network operated by the Oxen Service Node Network — the same infrastructure that powers the Session messenger. It operates at Layer 3, meaning any browser works without special configuration beyond installing the Lokinet client.
A Lokinet SNApp address is planned for after the current platform modernisation completes. When it launches it will appear here alongside the Tor and I2P addresses.
JavaScript works in your favour
JavaScript is required on all three networks. Far from being a risk, it is what makes uploads reliable, private, and resilient — especially on Tor and I2P where connections are by nature intermittent.

Uploads survive Tor circuit rotations
When your onion circuit changes mid-transfer, the TUS protocol automatically resumes from the last confirmed byte. No starting over, no lost data.

Uploads survive I2P tunnel rebuilds
When your garlic tunnel expires and a new one forms, the upload continues exactly where it left off. TUS tracks every byte acknowledged by the server.

Only failed chunks are retransmitted
On metered or slow darknet connections, chunked TUS transfers mean you never re-upload data that was already received. Each chunk is individually acknowledged.

Which network should I use?
Tor provides the strongest anonymity and is the recommended choice. I2P is a solid alternative with a peer-to-peer community and often lower latency for established tunnels. The standard web over SSL is fastest and works in any browser, but the server can see your IP address. All three networks give you exactly the same tools and features.
Do all three networks offer the same features?
Yes — all features are identical across Tor, I2P, and clearnet. Analyse, Convert, and Vaultify steganography are all fully available on every network. No features are restricted or withheld on the darknet.
Is it safe to use JavaScript on Tor?
On typical clearnet websites, JavaScript is used for third-party tracking and fingerprinting. On our Tor and I2P nodes, there are no external resources and no CDN calls — every script is self-hosted and served from the same onion or eepsite address you connected to. JavaScript on our darknet nodes works entirely in your favour: resumable uploads that survive circuit rotations and a responsive interface that minimises round-trips. It does not compromise your anonymity.
What is Lokinet and when will it be available?
Lokinet is a packet-switched onion-routing network operated by the Oxen Service Node Network. Unlike Tor and I2P, it operates at Layer 3, so standard browsers work without a proxy — just install the Lokinet client. We plan to add a Lokinet address after the current platform modernisation completes. Watch this page for updates.
Can I switch networks during a session?
In practice, no — and that is by design. Each network client (Chrome, Tor Browser, I2P Browser) has a completely isolated cookie store. If you open Tor Browser, it has no knowledge of your Chrome session and you start fresh automatically. The only edge case is switching between the clearnet URL and the onion address inside the same Tor Browser window — the cookie carries across because it is the same browser. In that case your session remains intact, though any in-progress upload should be restarted on the network you intend to use.
